AN OFFICER and veteran of the Cuban revolution and the Bay of Pigs invasion,Victor Dreke Cruz has dedicated much of his life's work to Cuba's active support ofAfrican Independence Movements, specifically those of the PAIGC in Guinea-Bissau/Cape Verde and the MNC of the Democratic Republic of the Congo(formerly, Zaire).

Cuban volunteers went to the Congo (formerly Zaire) at the request of followers ofPatrice Lumumba, the assassinated leader of the Congo's fight for independence. In1965, Victor Dreke Cruz served as Second in Command under Ernesto Che Guevarain the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In Africa in 1966-1968 Comrade Victor Dreke Cruz was head of Cuba's militarymission in Guinea-Bissau and the Cape Verde Island, fighting alongside AmilcarCabral for independence from Portugal.

Comrade Cruz also headed Cuba's mission in the Republic of Guinea and now serves as President of the Cuba-Africa Friendship Association.
