He had already been denied the constitutional right to serve as Prime Minister again after having led the PAIGC to win Legislative Elections on 10 March 2019.

After the PAIGC won the overwhelming majority of the popular vote in 2014, he served as Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau from July 2014, but was dismissed by a palace coup of August 2015. Before that, he has served as Minister of Public Works and Construction and Secretary of State for Transportation and Communications.

He is in his second term as President of the PAIGC, elected at the 8th Congress in 2014 and unanimously re-elected at the 9th Congress in 2018. Comrade Domingos Pereira was born in Farim, Guinea-Bissau. He has experience in civil engineering and political science. Has served as a professor of political-ideology “Militant Formation” of the PAIGC in schools, during the PAIGC Party/State.

As a child, he was a Young Pioneer in the Abel Djassi Pioneers before graduating to the Amilcar Cabral African Youth (JAAC). As President of the PAIGC, he contributed significantly to taking the Party back (forward) to its ideological roots, intensifying systematic political-ideoloigcal training, which he frequently attends; reinforcing and re-organizing the youth resulting in the first Congress of JAAC since 1983 (after 34 years) and implementation of Base Structures throughout Guinea-Bissau and its Diaspora. He participates in weekly political-ideological online sessions with the leadership of JAAC. He has re-established PAIGC relations with its historical Brother/Sister Organizations and Allies and ensures that the PAIGC is active in its solidarity with revolutionary and progressive countries such as Venezuela, Cuba, et al and ensures that the PAIGC is represented at the Africa-Cuba Solidarity Conferences.

Comrade Domingos Pereira has taken on the responsibility to coordinate with Political Parties in Africa that speak Portuguese, (FRELIMO, MPLA, MLSTP-PSD, PAICV and PAIGC).
